Here’s the fabulous Dan Flack of the West End Centre Growing for Health and Wealth project at Sunny bank allotments in Odsal.
Ed Poulter of West Yorkshire Fire Rescue (check name) had the brilliant idea to turn the grass area out the front of the Ilkley Fire Station into a community orchard. In this way he thought they could improve the space, bring people in the community together to connect with nature and also to learn about fire safety. Also once the trees start producing fruit any produce can go to local people in schools, through food banks or when schools visit the fire station. It was a cool, crisp and sunny day and people, including many children learned how to plant the trees. There are so many to thank. This project would not have been possible without the support of all who have donated through the crowd funding page; Moss & Moor for helping to source the trees; Climate Action Ilkley and the Northern Fruit Group for their advice, expertise and enthusiasm; to Ilkley Thingery for the loan of the tools and to everyone who turned up that day to help with the planting.
